The work of the journal was headed by the first dean of the Faculty of Pedagogical Education created in 1997, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Education Nikolai Khristovich Rozov (1938 - 2020). The first editorial board of the journal “Lomonosov Pedagogical Education Journal” included experts in the fields of pedagogy and psychology of higher education: S.D. Smirnov (deputy editor-in-chief), Yu.A. Seliverstov (executive secretary), E.A. Klimov, V.I. Ilchenko, G.A. Kitaigorodskaya, V.I. Kuptsov, N.F. Talyzin. They set high demands for the scientific level and quality of editorial and publishing preparation of materials submitted for publication in the journal, which are supported by the current editorial board.

In 2002, the first issue of the journal “Lomonosov Pedagogical Education Journal” was published. The rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University addressed the readers of the journal with a welcoming speech. Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.A. Sadovnichy wished the journal to help resolve practical problems in pedagogical education. In addition, greetings were received from teachers, former graduates of Lomonosov Moscow State University - Yu.V. Zavelsky and E.A. Bunimovich.

In the introductory article, N.Kh. Rozov set the task of preparing graduates of classical universities for pedagogical activity as urgent. The journal designed to cover various aspects of teacher training is a significant step in approaching this task. The first issue of the journal published articles by L.D. Kudryavtsev, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, corresponding member of RAS, author of works on teaching mathematics and general problems of education, and by R.S. Cherkasov, the patriarch of the Russian school of teaching mathematics, who headed the journal “Mathematics at School” for many years. From the very beginning, well-known experts not only in the field of pedagogy, but also philosophers, psychologists, mathematicians, etc. were the authors of the journal.

The discussion of current problems of Russian teacher education was combined with an appeal to the history of pedagogy and world pedagogical thought and was covered in the headings “Current Issue”, “Pedagogical Reflections”, “The Master’s Word”, “Experience of Practical Pedagogy”. “Creativity of the Young”, “Life’s Work”, “In Between Lectures”, etc.

Currently, the journal “Lomonosov Pedagogical Education Journal" is a publication on the pages of which topical problems of teacher training are raised, and theoretical and methodological issues of general pedagogy and its connection with psychology are discussed. A special place is given to the analysis of the established Russian pedagogical traditions and their decisive role in the preparation of modern teachers for higher and secondary schools.

Today we can say with confidence that “Lomonosov Pedagogical Education Journal" has a high demand for published material, which makes it one of the leading scientific journals in pedagogy, psychology and related fields of scientific knowledge.
